In 1893, Beatrix Potter wrote an illustrated letter to a child, which told the adventures of a naughty rabbit. Several years later she used the story for her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, this and the twenty-two little books that followed became one of the most popular children's series in the world. Beatrix Potter achieved fame as an author and then finally found her greatest happiness living as a farmer in the Lake District.
Wedgwood's long association with Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter began in 1949, which is when the Company first decorated ceramic items with the iconic Peter Rabbit illustrations. Wedgwood has been producing the Peter Rabbit nursery ware ever since.
